Why do people need stories?
Who is a good storyteller?
What is a story?

We’ll be talking about storytellers and the storytelling tradition in the past and today.
You’ll can also visit the exhibition “Et rada ei rohtuks” (“So that the path doesn’t grow over”).
In the summer of 2017, the storyteller Piret Päär and the photographer Maarja Urb travelled around Estonia and gathered memories about the storytelling tradition in the 20th century. The exhibition concentrates on some of theese memories which guide the visitors to their own memory landscapes.

Piret is an oral folklore specialist, professional storyteller, lecturer and head of Jutukool (Storytelling School) and NPO Jutumaja (Storytelling House). She’s been actively promoting storytelling for twenty seven years. She’s organised workshops, storytelling mornings, lunches, evenings, nights, conferences, international festivals, etc.

She was brought up in a community where the storytelling tradition was alive and kicking. Storytelling so close to her heart because of the stories she heard in her childhood and the storytellers she has met.
